This month’s focus is removing plastic bags from our lives.  It is estimated that 5 trillion bags are used annually and are not easily recyclable.  Environmental Club will have a box out to collect & recycle plastic bags.



 Attention Mr. CCHS Escorts, all jugs must be turned into Mrs. Segelken in the Media Center today, Friday, February 15th by Noon (12:00 p.m.)

 Also, Mr. CCHS contestants and escorts, if you have not picked up your shirt yet, it is in the Media Center with Mrs. Segelken.  Please pick them up today before you leave.

 Today is the last day to submit Freshmen Mentor applications for the 2019-2020 school year.  All completed applications must be dropped off in Mr. Thomas' Office by 3 pm today.  No late applications will be accepted.

 Attention Terrier Talent Show Act:  Information sheets and music for acts must be turned in to the yearbook office by the end of the day today.  See. Mrs. Jones with any questions.

 Tonight's basketball game against Marion will have a Varsity start time of 6 pm with JV following after.  The game is a white out theme.  The first 100 Bleacher Bums will receive two free gifts.  The best dress Bleacher Bum will receive a $10 Amazon gift card.

 Tickets for the Terrier Talent Show will be on sale next Tuesday - Friday for $10 during both lunch hours across from the cafeteria.  The talent show will be held next Saturday, February 23rd starting at 6:30 pm.   

 Good luck to the Boys Basketball team as they travel to Cape Notre Dame tomorrow at 2pm.


 Auditions for the Spring Play will be held on Wednesday and Thursday next week after school.  See Dr. Dennis for details.

 Senior Tribute ads for the 2019 DIAL Yearbook will be accepted through Friday in the yearbook office.

 INTERACT needs your help in collecting newspapers to recycle for St. Francis CARE animal shelter.  They have lost their supplier and need your donations.  Please drop off all papers to the special bin in the foyer hallway.

 ATTENTION WORLD LANGUAGE SENIORS:  Applications are now available for the Seal of Biliteracy. They are due by March 1 at 3:00. See Mr. Taylor or your teacher if you need an application or have any questions.

 Attention Terrier Talent Show Acts:  Please turn in completed information sheets, music and ticket order forms to the yearbook office by the end of school on Friday.  The Terrier Talent Show will be held on Saturday, February 23rd in the auditorium starting at 6:30 pm.

 The Democracy School Committee will be hosting a voter's registration drive tomorrow during lunch and Friday during ARP and after school.  Students who will be 18 on or before November 5th, 2019 are eligible to sign up with a driver's licence or state ID and your CCHS ID.  Extra credit will be given in Civics classes for those who sign up.

 THE CCHS STUDENT COUNCIL will be collecting money tomorrow, Thursday and Friday (February 14th & 15th), across from the cafeteria for the three CCHS teachers who will be participating in the Polar Plunge at the end of the month to raise money for Special Olympics.  Bring in your spare change for a good cause.  

 MR. CCHS: The 5th annual Mr. CCHS Pageant will be this Saturday, February 16TH, starting at 6:30 p.m.  Tickets will be sold at lunch both TODAY and Tomorrow this week. Tickets are $5.00 per person, and will be $7 at the door the night of the event.

JAVON LOVE will be signing to play football at Quincy University on Thursday, Feb. 14, at 2:40 in the gym foyer.  Congratulations Javon!

 GOOD LUCK TO LUKE DALY, COLIN BYBEE AND ARON TAYLOR as they travel to compete in the IHSA Wrestling State Championships!

 THE DEADLINE TO SUBMIT SENIOR TRIBUTE ADS for the 2019 yearbook is Friday, February 15th, at 3 pm.

 JUNIORS: You are excused from class on Friday, February 15th, in order to take a full length practice SAT. Your attendance on Friday is important and your April SAT score will benefit from this practice opportunity. Look for information in your American History class this week explaining where you need to report at the first bell Friday. If you have any questions, see Mrs. Sabens or Mrs. Murphy.

 STUDENTS:  We will be having our End of the Semester Terrier Fest in May.  TerrierFest is a day to celebrate all of our students that are following the Terrier Traits all semester long!   You must be eligible to attend...You must have 85% attendance, no more than 5 disciplinary referrals, and no more than 1 in school suspension.  You can't have any out of school suspensions and you can't have any social suspension.    We are looking forward to another great event with inflatables, food, music and fun!  Remember to keep working hard and following our Terrier Traits of: Be Here Be Ready, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Involved!  

WE HAVE THREE FACULTY MEMBERS, Mrs. Sagaskie, Mrs. Poore and Mrs. Geiselman, participating in the Polar Plunge in two weeks on Saturday, February 23rd. The Polar Plunge is a unique opportunity to support Special Olympics athletes by taking a flying leap – a leap into the frigid waters of SIU Campus Lake. Participants must raise $100 in donations from friends, family and co-workers in exchange for jumping into the icy waters.  The CCHS Student Council will be set up during lunch next week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday across from the cafeteria with collection jars to get donations for the three teachers on the CCHS team to help them in their
quest of the Polar Plunge.  Bring in your spare change to help a great cause and to see our faculty take the icy plunge!   

 ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS INTERESTED IN HONORS ENGLISH FOR NEXT YEAR.  Please submit a portfolio of your work, along with a letter of interest and a list of books you've completed in the last year to your current English teacher by the following dates: Sophomores to be Juniors - Friday, February 25th, and Freshmen to be Sophomores - Friday, March 22nd.

 APPLICATIONS TO BE A FRESHMEN MENTOR FOR THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR are now available to be picked up in the Principal's Office.  Members of the Class of 2020 and 2021 can apply to be a mentor.  If you were a mentor last year, you will need to apply again for next year.  An application will be sent to you in class today.  All completed applications must be turned in to Mr. Thomas' Office by the end of school on Friday, February 15th.  See Mrs. B.  ATTENTION STUDENT COUNCIL MEMBERS:  People are still needed to sell compatibility surveys Wed - Fri this week during lunch.  Sign up to work on the bulletin board across from the cafeteria.  Permission slips and money to attend the LEDSC Spring Rally at SIUC on Feb. 26th are due in the yearbook office by Friday.  See Mrs. Jones with any questions.

 SOPHOMORES & JUNIORS: Summer Honor's Institute information was emailed to you. The Summer Honor's institute at JALC typically allows students with a 3.25 overall GPA, OR a 25 composite ACT score, OR SAT score of 1200 to take up to 8 hours of college courses, tuition free. Check your email for more information.

 WEIGHT TRAINING has resumed after school, beginning at 3:15 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.  There will be no workouts on days of early dismissal.

 ATTENTIONAL ALL STUDENTS: Be sure to stop by your counselor's table outside of the cafeteria this week to pick up your updated transcript. Your transcript reflects information that is important for you to know such as credits earned, all of your grades and your updated grade point average. Your counselor is looking forward to seeing you at lunch this week!

 ATTENTION JUNIORS: We need your help in the concession stand!  Remember you get $5.00 toward your Prom Ticket for every game worked!  There are additional Girls and Freshman Basketball games available check the Jr Class Bulletin Board for opportunities! Sign-up on the bulletin board to work!  If you sign up...show up! Varsity Basketball Games all start at 6:15 the stand opens at 5:30. The following Varsity Basketball Games are left this year!  2/15, 2/22   Officers you are required to work the above games or arrange for a substitute (no girls or freshman game substitutions allowed)!  CLASS OF 2021: HOBY, the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership State Leadership Seminar will be accepting registrations from parents seeking HOBY experience for their children beginning in January of 2019. CCHS is allowed to register 2 students outside their current nominees. Congratulations Will Bowlby & Saja Naser as being named the Class of 2021 HOBY nominees. Founded in 1958, HOBY’s mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation. HOBY programs provide students the opportunity to participate in unique leadership training, service-learning and motivation-building experiences. The State Leadership Seminar is 3-4 days of fun, interactive leadership training, meeting state leaders, and making new friends (Dates: 6/13/2019 - 6/16/2019 at Illinois Wesleyan University).  THE CCHS "LATE BUS" runs Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays.  It departs Giant City entrance at 5:00 and makes various stops around Carbondale and De Soto.  The late bus is available for anyone attending Terrier Tutoring, clubs, or athletics.


 SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS, AND SENIORS!  Be sure to login to Naviance regularly to check out the college visit opportunities this fall.  To receive a pass to meet with admission representatives you MUST register through your Naviance account.  These meetings are a great way to learn more about your college options and to demonstrate interest in specific colleges and universities.  See your counselor or Ms. Murphy with any questions.
