Get excited because the annual CCHS Multicultural Festival is coming up!  This year’s theme is Monuments Around the World - we hope you can join us on Wednesday, February 5th for a fun and exciting evening!  Listen each day to the featured “Monument of the Day” to be entered to win a prize! Simply write down your guess along with your first and last name and drop it in the “Monument of the Day” box in H114 for your chance to win.  Today’s “Monument of the Day” clue is…An ivory-white marble mausoleum on the south bank of the Yamuna River in Agra, commissioned in 1632, attracts 7-8 million visitors each year, the finest in Mughal architecture.  Simply write down your answer along with your first and last name and drop it in the box in H114.  Good Luck!

SENIORS: If you are planning to attend JALC next year, please visit the Counseling Office to pick up a permission slip for the JALC field trip set up to get you registered for classes. Read your email for details.

ATTENTION FOOTBALL PLAYERS: anyone who still has cleats in the field house needs to make arrangements after school this week to pick them up. We are doing field house renovations and they need to be out of the way. If not picked up, they will be put into storage.

KEY CLUB: There will be a full meeting today, Wednesday, January 29th, after school at 3:05 in the cafeteria. We have several different volunteer opportunities, so be sure to come to the meeting. 

FRENCH CLUB: French Club will meet today, Wednesday, January 29th, in Madame Lahlou's room (J109) right after school. We will be preparing for the Multicultural Festival.

ANY STUDENTS interested in participating in the Carbondale Black History Scholar Bowl at SIU, please see or e-mail Mr. Taylor in room J108 or see John Patton.  You can also just stop by after school today, Wednesday, January 29th, in room J108.

GERMAN CLUB will meet on Thursday, January 30th, in Frau Bassett’s room J105, right after school.  We will be preparing for the Multicultural Festival that is next week.  See you there!

POETRY SLAM PARTICIPANTS: There will be a mandatory meeting tomorrow Thursday, January 30th, from 3-4 pm in the Cafeteria. If you do NOT attend this meeting, you will NOT be able to perform at the Poetry Slam. Please see Mrs. Amaya-Allen, Mrs. Love, or Mr. Smith BEFORE Thursday if there is a conflict.

ATTENTION SENIORS: The deadline to sign up for the senior/faculty basketball team has been extended through Friday, January 31st.  Order forms can be picked up and dropped off in the principal's office.

JUNIORS AND SENIORS:  CCHS 2020 Prom T-shirt design contest is about to begin!! If you would like to submit an original 2-D art piece for this contest, you have until Friday, February 7, 2020 to submit by either digital or hardcopy. Digital submissions must be sent via response to the email that you were sent. Hardcopy submissions must be turned into the Principal’s office before the end of the school day @ 3:00 pm on February 7, 2020. Please direct any questions to Miss Lewis or Mrs. Fields. This years’ theme is “A Night in Paris”. The winner of this contest will receive major bragging rights and a FREE ticket to Prom! (Please note that the winner can ONLY be an upperclassman as the prize cannot be awarded to a Freshman or Sophomore).

STUDENTS!  If you are interested in learning more about the selective college admissions process and educational opportunities, please be sure to sign up through Naviance to meet with CCHS class of 2014 graduate, Nick Ginsburg, on Monday, February 3rd at 2:00.  Nick will talk about his application, educational and work experiences at Oberlin College and Vassar College during the meeting.

A FEW SENIOR T-SHIRTS remain for purchase in the Student Activities Office.  Short sleeve for $10, long sleeve for $15, crew neck for $20, and hoodies for $25.  

CREATIVE WRITING CLUB: There is no meeting this week but the club t-shirts are in, so stop by Ms. Bachman’s room, C213, to get your shirt.

FCCLA is asking for your help. We are collecting items for the Carbondale Warming Centers. They are in need of toiletries, laundry supplies, hats, scarves and gloves. You can drop the items off at Mrs Jordan’s room, Ms Love’s room, and Mrs Geiselman’s room. Thank you for our help!

THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT are taking applications for Honors English 2. If you are interested in applying to be in Honors English, please pick up an application from your English teacher.  The deadline for submission is February 28th.

TERRIER TUTORING: Media Center from 3:15-4:45 pm., on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

PRE-ORDERED SENIOR SHIRTS can be picked up in the Student Activities Office before school, during lunch, or after school this week.  Extra senior shirts will be available for purchase later in the week.

JUNIORS:  Thank you for your participation in the Prom Theme Poll.  The theme for Prom will be “A Night in Paris” Prom will be held on April 25th at the Civic Center.  Please stay tuned for more information on Prom in the coming months.

DON'T FORGET ABOUT TERRIER TUTORING! Terrier Tutoring is your secret weapon in getting the best grades in your classes. We are open 3:15 to 4:45 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in rooms B202 and B204 in the Media Center. We are ready to help you in math, science, and English!

MEDIA CENTER:  After school hours are M-TH 3:00 - 5:30 and F 3:00 - 4:00.


SENIORS:  Be sure to check your email for a link to the 2020 General Scholarship Application.  It was sent to every senior on December 4th and 6th.  Every college bound senior should complete this application for a chance to win a local scholarship to help with college expenses.  You can also check Naviance at your convenience for available local and national scholarships.  

Class of 2022: HOBY, the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership State Seminar, will be accepting registration from parents seeking HOBY experience for their children beginning in January of 2020. HOBY’s mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation. HOBY programs provide youth to participate in unique leadership training, service-learning and motivation-building experiences. This seminar is 3-4 days of fun, interactive leadership training, meeting state leaders, and making new friends (Dates: 6/18/2019-6/21/2019 at Illinois Wesleyan University).
