MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION CARBONDALE COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 165, CARBONDALE, ILLINOIS HELD JANUARY 19, 2012 The regular meeting of the Board of Education of School District 165 was held in the cafeteria of Carbondale Community High School, 1301 East Walnut Street, Carbondale, Illinois, on Thursday, January 19, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. An executive session preceded the meeting at 6:30 p.m. Upon roll call, the following members were present: Kathy Booziotis, William Sherwood, Mike Durr, Francis Tsung, Mike Neill. The following members were absent: Linda Flowers, Vicky King Also present were: Stephen Murphy, Daniel Booth, Steve Kosco, CCHSEA Represented President Sherwood declared a quorum present and the regular meeting of January 19, 2012, was called to order. Executive Session: Motion by Booziotis, seconded by Durr, to go into executive session for the purpose of considering information regarding the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees. Roll call: Booziotis, Durr, Neill, Sherwood and Tsung voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried. Member Answers Roll Call: Member King answered roll call at 6:31 p.m. Public Portion of the Meeting Convenes: The public portion of the meeting convened at 7:48 p.m. President Sherwood stated no action was taken while in executive session. Minutes: The minutes of the regular meeting of December 15, 2011, were approved as distributed. Approval of Executive Session Minutes: Motion by Durr, seconded by Tsung, to approve the minutes of the executive sessions conducted on December 15, 2011, and January 19, 2012. Roll call: Durr, King, Neill, Sherwood, Tsung and Booziotis voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried. Old Business: There were no old business items. Mathematics Department Newsletter: The Board of Education received the Mathematics Department Newsletter for their review. Public Comments: There were no public comments. Payment of Bills: Motion by Tsung, seconded by Booziotis, to pay the remaining bills for the month of December, 2011; and, those available for payment for the month of January, 2012.Roll call: King, Neill, Sherwood, Tsung, Booziotis and Durr voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried. 2011-12 Curriculum Recommendations: Motion by Durr, seconded by King, to approve the 2011-12 curriculum recommendations as presented. Roll call: Neill, Sherwood, Tsung, Booziotis, Durr and King voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried. Walking Path: Motion by Booziotis, seconded by Tsung, to approve the proposed walking path as presented. Roll call: Sherwood, Tsung, Booziotis, Durr, King and Neill voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried. Approval of "Love Your Heart" Free Personal Leave Day Drawing: Motion by Durr, seconded by Tsung, to approve a free personal leave day (as a drawing) in the annual promotion of faculty and staff participation in good heart practices by getting a blood pressure check (to qualify for the drawing) during "Love Your Heart Week" in February. Roll call: Tsung, Booziotis, Durr, King, Neill and Sherwood voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried. Bids and Quotes: There were no bid or quote items. Employment of Personnel: Motion by Durr, seconded by Booziotis, to employ the following personnel as presented: a. Rebound Grant Personnel--Employment contingent upon grant funding and student enrollment, with reduced hours during the months when evening classes are not in session and during the summer (tentative dates of employment: January 5, 2012-July 30, 2012): Stacey Silver Teutrine: Math/Science Learning Facilitator--36 Hours/Week @ $15.35/Hour b. Driver Education Behind-the-Wheel Personnel 2011-12: Cliff Davis Roll call: Booziotis, Durr, King, Neill, Sherwood and Tsung voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried. New OMA Training for Board of Education Members: Superintendent Murphy reviewed the new OMA training requirements for the Board of Education.
