This has been an outstanding spring for Carbondale Terriers Music. Several of Carbondale Community High School’s musicians have achieved high success and recognition for their many hours of practice on their musical endeavors.

At “Jazz in the Meadows” on February 23 in Schaumberg, Illinois, senior David McEathron received recognition for Outstanding Piano Solo Performance and sophomore Leandru Martin received recognition for Outstanding Trombone Solo Performance as well.

CCHS Band, Strings and Piano, and Vocal Music received 72 Division I ratings at IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest in March. Two students received Best of Day recognition for their solos as well. These were 9th grade Adelaide Garvey on clarinet and 10th grade Darcy Conder on Marimba.

Every year SIU-C Southern Illinois Symphonic Orchestra holds a precollege concerto competition for their “Stars of Altgeld” concert.  The 2019 winner was senior Emma Byrd on Clarinet.  She performed her solo alongside the orchestra on April 2nd.

On April 26th, 27th, and 28th, Southeastern Illinois College will be presenting Aida, a musical written by Elton John and Tim Rice. The title role, Aida, will be played and sung by CCHS junior, Sena Ntumy.

All of these accomplished students will be performing in their respective CCHS ensembles on Tuesday, April 30 in the CCHS Auditorium at the 2019 Fine Arts Night (6-8 P.M.)
